Description Description

Issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln's birthday, the Lincoln cent in 1909 attracted great acclaim, but also sparked controversy. People began to notice that on the coin's reverse side, below the two wheat stalks, were three puzzling little letters: "V.D.B." What could they mean? Coin experts understood that the letters were the initials of the coin's distinguished designer, sculptor Victor David Brenner. Following a tradition of artists and coin designers that goes back beyond America's first coins, he had "signed" his masterpiece with his initials. Public opinion soon made the U.S. Mint decide to remove the initials after only a short mintage run. Now obsolete for over 100 years, this rare wheat penny can be yours when you secure The Only Reverse V.D.B. Wheat Cent Coin, available in an exclusive presentation from The Bradford Exchange Mint. This coveted coin collectible also marks the first-ever appearance of the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" on a one-cent coin.

Each genuine legal tender coin was struck in an alloy of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc by the historic U.S. Philadelphia and San Francisco Mints in 1909. The reverse side features wheat sheaves, leading to the nickname "Wheaties" or "Wheat Cents" plus the designer's initials: "V.D.B." The obverse features a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, the first president ever featured on a U.S. coin. Each genuine, vintage coin also displays its own unique patina, making each one-of-a-kind. These incredible coins are presented in a rarely found Very Fine (VF) condition and due to their scarcity, they are 23 times RARER than a Morgan Silver Dollar. Plus, your century-old Lincoln penny arrives in a crystal-clear, tamper-proof holder and includes a deluxe display box, perfect for presenting and storing your coin or giving it as a unique gift.
